Spinach
Fight for Glory — buff your body with Spinach and show 'em who is boss!
Overview
Play as a Roman Warrior, survive the Arena, and buff your body by eating glorious Spinach cans to feel the heat of battle as you fight waves of enemies!
Each Spinach can you consume enhances a different part of your warrior's body — granting unique combat abilities. The game was created as a submission to the GMTK Game Jam 2024, designing around the jam's theme through a physically comedic and mechanically surprising twist on arena combat.

My Role & Contributions
- Designed the body-part buffing system, mapping each Spinach type to a distinct mechanical buff and playstyle shift
- Collaborated with a team of 7 developers across programming, art, and design under jam conditions
- Contributed to balancing enemy wave difficulty scaling and the risk/reward of choosing which body part to buff
Design Challenges
The core challenge was making the Spinach buff system feel meaningfully impactful without breaking combat balance. With only jam time available, every buff had to be immediately readable and satisfying — the player needed to feel the difference the moment they ate a can. Designing that "eureka" moment of discovering each buff's effect under time pressure was both the hardest and most rewarding part.
